Carol Waites, MA, MEdAdmin, PhD


Carol Waites spent 20 years as a writing skills trainer at the Centre for Learning and Multilingualism at the United Nations Office, Geneva. She continues to consult as a writing skills trainer for international organizations.

She has designed this site to help her writing skills students.

The site contains the most important points covered in the workshops. It also contains tips. Carol is currently writing training manuals, so this site will be a valuable way of getting feedback during the development of the manuals.

She gives many free materials, as she wishes to help people gain confidence and improve their writing.

Carol’s background


Carol is of British, Australian and Swiss nationalities. She currently lives in Geneva, Switzerland.

She spent six years in Spain, almost 30 years in Australia, 10 years in England, and 20 years + in France and Switzerland.

She started her life as a translator and interpreter in English, French and Spanish, then changed to teaching English. She ran a language programme for 16 years at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Then, following her extensive university study, she felt equipped to teach writing skills, which she has done in international organizations for over 20 years.
