What predictions will affect writers for 2025? Several AI podcasts and platforms are giving their opinions.
A main consideration is data confidentiality. Your organization will advise you on which tools to use and how to use them. For example, Copilot is used in the United Nations and the World Health Organization. Make sure you know which one you may use at work.
The best use of AI, according to the experts, is in the form of autonomous agents, a little like human assistants, that can take simple instructions, distribute tasks to various models and complete the overall project independently. However, users beware, as we all know how hard it is to give clear instructions to a human assistant to get the desired results. The same goes for AI assistants.
Thus far, AI is not up for reasoning, planning and any high level of sophistication. We will develop our skills in giving detailed prompts to these agents to get closer to our desired results. An expert I consulted said the workload would change from writing or producing content to editing and adapting AI-produced content.
When AI doesn’t know something, it can “hallucinate”, or invent stuff. Another prediction is that organizations will let models cite the sources of their own data, thus reducing hallucinations. I already use Perplexity, as it references all its findings from sources.
As AI helps employees work smarter and faster, leaders may struggle to keep up. It’s important for us all to keep endlessly curious in this AI-accelerated world.
Many of us already use AI extensively to clear our texts of grammatical errors and to help us write clearer messages. Aside from ChatGPT and generative AI, tools to achieve these include Grammarly, Wordtune and DeepLWrite. These will need to transform rapidly to keep up, as AI tools will redefine autonomy, not just responding but taking initiative, anticipating needs and acting independently, solving problems before we notice them.
The way we work will be transformed as our organizations develop their AI strategies and reshape how they operate. AI will likely move into mobile robots that we’ll interact with in the real world. How this will affect writing will be interesting to watch. Presumably, how we communicate will change.
What predictions would you make for AI in 2025?
